Krishna explains rajasic intellect. 'Yayā dharmam adharmaṁ ca kāryaṁ cākāryam eva ca ayathāvat prajānāti'—that intellect (yayā buddhiḥ) which understands (prajānāti) incorrectly (ayathāvat) duty and non-duty (dharmam adharmam), what should be done and what should not be done (kāryam akāryam). 'Buddhiḥ sā pārtha rājasī'—that intellect (sā buddhiḥ) is rajasic (rājasī), O Arjuna (pārtha). This is rajasic intellect: confused understanding of duty and non-duty, what to do and what not to do. It's not completely wrong like tamasic intellect, but it's confused and not clear. This intellect is driven by rajas (passion), which creates confusion and mixed understanding. Unlike sattvic intellect (which is clear and discerning), rajasic intellect is confused and unclear. You have some understanding, but it's not accurate or complete. This is the middle kind of intellect: better than tamasic (which is ignorant) but not as clear as sattvic (which is discerning).
How this ancient wisdom applies to your daily life

This verse explains rajasic intellect: that intellect which understands duty and non-duty, what should be done and what should not be done, incorrectly (yayā dharmam adharmaṁ ca kāryaṁ cākāryam eva ca ayathāvat prajānāti), is rajasic (buddhiḥ sā pārtha rājasī). This is the middle kind of intellect: confused and unclear, driven by rajas (passion), which creates confusion and mixed understanding. Unlike sattvic intellect (clear, discerning), rajasic intellect is confused and unclear. You have some understanding, but it's not accurate or complete. When you understand this, you realize: you can work toward sattvic intellect by developing clear, discerning understanding of right action. This is the path: moving from rajasic (confused) to sattvic (clear) intellect.

Are you confused about duty and non-duty, what to do and what not to do? Are you operating with rajasic intellect? What would change if you understood rajasic intellect and worked toward sattvic intellect—clear, discerning understanding?
