Bhagavad Gita Chapter 2, Verse 40
नेहाभिक्रमनाशोऽस्ति प्रत्यवायो न विद्यते । स्वल्पमप्यस्य धर्मस्य त्रायते महतो भयात् ॥
nehābhikrama-nāśo'sti pratyavāyo na vidyate | svalpam apy asya dharmasya trāyate mahato bhayāt ||
Here shall no end be lost, no hope be vain! A little of this Dharma saves from mighty fear!
Arjuna hesitates, afraid to start what he can't complete perfectly. Krishna offers radical encouragement: in Karma Yoga, no effort is wasted (abhikrama-nāśa). Your incomplete attempts accumulate. Unlike business ventures that fail completely, spiritual practice has no downside (pratyavāya)—any sincere step moves you forward. Even a little of this dharma protects you from the great fear: the endless cycle of birth and suffering. Start imperfectly. Your effort compounds, never disappears.
