Bhagavad Gita Chapter 3, Verse 9
यज्ञार्थात्कर्मणोऽन्यत्र लोकोऽयं कर्मबन्धनः | तदर्थं कर्म कौन्तेय मुक्तसङ्गः समाचर ||
yajñārthāt karmaṇo 'nyatra loko 'yaṁ karma-bandhanaḥ tad-arthaṁ karma kaunteya mukta-saṅgaḥ samācara
Work done as sacrifice for Vishnu has to be performed, otherwise work binds one to this material world. Therefore, O son of Kunti, perform your prescribed duties for His satisfaction, and in that way you will always remain free from bondage.
Krishna introduces yajna (sacrifice/offering) as the solution to karmic bondage. Actions done for personal gain create attachment and suffering, but the same actions performed as an offering to something greater free you. 'Yajna' means transforming every action into service—working to serve, not to get. When work becomes worship, it liberates instead of binding. This verse solves the problem of inevitable action: shift from selfish activity to sacred offering.
