Bhagavad Gita Chapter 5, Verse 9
प्रलपन्विसृजन्गृह्णन्नुन्मिषन्निमिषन्नपि | इन्द्रियाणीन्द्रियार्थेषु वर्तन्त इति धारयन् ||
pralapan visṛjan gṛhṇann unmīṣan nimīṣann api indriyāṇīndriyārtheṣu vartanta iti dhārayan
Even while speaking, letting go, holding, opening and closing the eyes, one should understand that the senses are moving among sense objects.
Krishna continues explaining the yogi's understanding: even while performing all actions—speaking, letting go, holding, opening and closing the eyes—the yogi understands (dhārayan) that the senses (indriyāṇi) are moving among sense objects (indriyārtheṣu vartante). This means the yogi recognizes that actions are performed by the senses interacting with their objects, not by the Self. The Self is the witness—the senses act, the body acts, but the Self remains unchanged. This understanding maintains the state of non-doership. The yogi sees all actions as the play of senses with sense objects, not as 'my actions.' This is the practical application of karma yoga—performing actions while understanding their true nature.
