Story Summary

Ashwatthama, Kripa, and Kritavarma move through the night toward the Pandava camp, which glows with celebration fires in the distance. The camp is at rest, its warriors sleeping peacefully after believing the war has ended. The three attackers move with stealth and precision, avoiding guards and navigating the darkness. As they draw closer, they see the vulnerability of the sleeping camp—warriors resting without armor, guards relaxed, the entire camp unaware of the approaching danger. This story establishes the central theme of Sauptika Parva: the attack on sleeping, defenseless warriors, showing the moral weight of what is about to unfold.
