Vidura's Wisdom

When wisdom speaks, will it be heard? Vidura imparts profound teachings on leadership and righteousness, but even the wisest counsel may fall on deaf ears.

Story Summary

After Sanjaya's failed peace mission, King Dhritarashtra is deeply troubled by the prospect of war. He seeks counsel from his wise brother Vidura, who imparts Vidura Niti—profound teachings on righteous leadership, governance, and ethics. Vidura warns about the consequences of greed and injustice, pleads for peace, and urges Dhritarashtra to prevent the impending war. However, despite Vidura's wisdom and Dhritarashtra's desire for peace, the king remains powerless against his son Duryodhana's obstinacy. The story shows how even the wisest counsel cannot overcome willful ignorance and sets the stage for the inevitability of war.
